The Full Story
Well, it's not really "us," but it's me: Chelsea Felix! Receiving over 1200 hours of education, I graduated at the top of my class in 2021 in the Master Esthetics program at The Chrysm Institute of Esthetics (Virginia Beach, VA), considered one of the best Esthetic Schools in the United States. Prior to finishing the Master Esthetics program, I also graduated top of my class in the Professional/Basic Esthetics program in 2019.
Born in New Jersey, I discovered my love for skin care while living in one of the fashion capitals of the world: Tokyo, Japan. While living in Japan, I earned certifications as a Sunless Tanning Artist (2015) and a Makeup Artist (2016). I believe that good skincare means enjoying the journey to healthier, more youthful looking skin!
After Japan, the United States Air Force moved our family back to the East Coast to Hampton, Virginia where I then started my Esthetics journey in school and working in the field. I was really able to master my skills as a waxer at an independently owned business called Smooth: A Skin & Waxing Boutique. It was there that I received one on one training to perfect the Brazilian wax skills that my clients so appreciate today. From there, I moved on to a facial spa called Hand & Stone and really fell in love with being able to provide my clients with relaxing and results-driven services.
I currently live in Shamong, New Jersey with my husband, son, and two dogs. In my free time, I love to spend time outside with all my babies, going to the beach (wearing my SPF under an umbrella, of course), and date nights in Philly or AC with my husband.
How often should I receive facials?
Routine facials should be scheduled every 3-4 weeks or once a month. This is because the nature of the skin cell turnover, typically every 28 days. As we age this turnover slows down and it's important that we help it along in the process.
Will I break out after a facial?
Breakouts rarely occur, but it can happen. This is because we are bringing impurities to the surface, and sometimes introducing new products, especially if this is your first facial. Please plan accordingly if you are getting a facial for a special event. I recommend at least a month prior.
Are scrubs bad for my skin?
When it comes to scrubs and exfoliation, they are not created equally. Some can be extremely abrasive such as those shell type particles like almond or apricot kernel scrubs. They contain jagged edges and can cause micro-tears in the skin, thus causing premature aging and possibly hyperpigmentation. Professional scrubs used at JGSS contain perfect round spheres that will exfoliate your skin without any harm.
What age should I start receiving regular facials?
Brace yourself... you start aging in your 20's! But please don't fret! It's never too late to start facials and taking care of your skin! In addition, if you are a teen with skin issues such as acne, Jersey Girl Skin Suite can help you!
